Himalayan Open Paragliding Championship-2010 will be held at the world-famous paragliding take-off site at Billing in Kangra district from October 29 to November 1.
A state government communique released here today said Himachal Pradesh Department of Youth Services and Sports together with the Tourism Department and Aero Club of India would together organise the championship in the state. Registration of paragliding pilots would start from October 15. Paragliders having performed 35 kilometres cross-country twice and having knowledge of collision avoidance and air traffic rules would be eligible for participating in the event. October 28 will be the trial day for the event.
Paragliders would be provided free transportation from landing site i.e. Bir to Billing. Apart from this, the Department of Youth, Services and Sports would also provide rescue, retrieval and safety teams during the competition.

Due to an advisory form the Union government, the championship could not announced earlier as there was fear that somebody might glide all the way to New Delhi, nearly 400 kilometres away, and attack the Commonwealth Games, which got underway on October 3.
